OUR PROGRAMS
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE COMBINED WITH JEWISH TRADITION AND ETHICS
At the core of a Park East Day School education is the encouragement
of self-expression, the development of self-confidence in one’s intelligence, the ability
to interact and function successfully, collaboratively and kindly in a peer group---and underlying
all is a deep cultivation and pride in Jewish tradition and identity.
General and Jewish studies are seamlessly integrated by the bridging philosophy
that knowledge and intelligence are not enough alone, but that these qualities must be
applied and practiced within the best Jewish tradition of ethics, honesty and excellence.
Park East Day School teachers and administrators dedicate themselves to developing young people who
will become morally responsible, deep reasoning citizens who will contribute to the American Jewish community,
to Israel, and to American society.
Park East is a joyful school, a place where children are inspired by their
teachers and embraced everywhere by menschlikeit, where children learn to love
Jewish holidays and traditions celebrated with music and song, daily.
Early Childhood Center: Nursery and Kindergarten
The relaxed formality of the Early Childhood Program—class schedules, regular
daily activities such as art, science and chess--tend to give a sense of security to the children and provide a reassuring direction
to school activities. Children both in the Nursery and Kindergarten programs.
The Lower School
The Lower School program comprises grades 1-5 and its overall goal is to
lead children to develop a beginning foundation both in a variety of general
elementary subjects and in Jewish heritage and tradition. Our classes emphasize
cooperation and collaboration, not competition, and our dedicated faculty strive
to encourage children to explore and embrace enthusiastically new experiences, new
ideas and thereby build confidence in learning. Classroom work is planned and structured
for the entire class but the small class size allows for individual attention to variations
in development and learning levels. The environment
is one of relaxed assurance, in which kindness and respect toward others is emphasized.
The Middle School
The Middle School program, grades 6-8, builds upon the foundation that is
established in the Lower School. The curriculum engages students in a variety
of rigorous subjects in preparation for an Upper School education and encourages
deeper discovery and exploration of their Jewish identity and heritage and also of the
greater world. Students in the lower School learn how to communicate with others and how
to reason logically and clearly. The curriculum recognizes the variations in the tempo at
which children mature and learn, and places as much emphasis on the personal and social
development of its students as with their academic growth through a variety of subjects.
Individual interests, abilities, and talents are encouraged and cultivated as is a strong
ethical point of view regarding the beliefs and opinions of others. This is particularly
expressed in the international focus that is brought to the Middle School, in which global
issues like religious freedom, human rights, are introduced to students through the life experiences
of distinguished guests and visitors from the diplomatic and world religious arenas.
